Unfortunately, damage to the woodland either side of Walnut Tree Bottom has been caused by cyclists riding off the permitted bridleways and creating their own off-road tracks and camps. These have crossed badger runs, disturbed nesting birds and damaged trees, including Ancient Yews, which have been cut using saws.
GBC have posted notices which say: “To Whom it May Concern…
Regretfully the Countryside Department at Guildford Borough Council had to dismantle this structure as we have a duty to limit the damage to the local environment and discourage rough sleeping on public sites.
We are, however, keen for younger residents to get into nature and use these woods in an environmentally sustainable way so if you would like to get in touch with us about permission to build dens please contact us through a parent/guardian, Residents Association, school etc.
We’d love to hear from you.
